The County of San Diego developed a comprehensive guide to assess, establish and maintain a Facebook page for suicide prevention and stigma reduction. A Guide to Using Facebook to Promote Suicide Prevention and Mental Illness Stigma Reduction has been recognized by the Southern California Best Practice Workgroup as a best practice to prevent suicide and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness, and is identified on the Suicide Prevention Resource Center’s Best Practices Registry. The purpose for creating the guide was to provide a tool for others who are interested in developing and implementing a Facebook and social media presence for prevention programs and public awareness campaigns.
