The County of Sonoma has created an aggressive and successful greenhouse gas emissions reduction and sustainability program, motivated by the County’s commitment to reducing its greenhouse gas footprint and operating in a sustainable way. Shared by the realization that local government can have a greater impact than their proportionate share of emissions by exhibiting strong leadership, these issues are best addressed internally and as a part of a regional and collaborative approach. The program includes a comprehensive climate protection action plan, a comprehensive energy project concentrating on facilities and self-generation, and a regional climate committee, made up of all cities and agencies within the County.
