The Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles (HACoLA) administers Section 8 rental subsidy programs for low-income families in Los Angeles County. Before rental subsidy can be paid on behalf of a family, the selected unit must be inspected before leasing, and at least annually thereafter. HACoLA uses the Green Route Software (GRS) which creates itineraries, generates notices, and assigns inspectors to inspections using geographic data to maximize the number of inspections scheduled. Despite these advanced features, inspectors were tasked with manually calling each tenant the night before a scheduled inspection, and calling a second time to provide an estimated timeframe. With an average of 220 inspections completed daily, the phone call was eating away over an hour of time each day. As a solution, HACoLA enhanced its existent GRS system by creating a time sync feature that allows GRS to generate inspection records in HACoLAâs YARDI Voyager housing data system, and sync with HACoLAâs phone system, One Call Now which now produces two automated phone calls that were previously completed by inspectors. This simple technological advancement, saves over 20 hours daily between 18 inspectors and allows for up to 30 more inspections to be completed each day.
