In 2017, the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department, Maricopa County Sheriffâs Office, Arizona Game and Fish Department met to discuss the construction of a shared-use complex at Lake Pleasant Regional Park. The park sees approximately 700,000 visitors annually. In addition to housing resources and equipment, the agencies responsible for providing public-safety on a 10,000-acre lake agreed the facility should be designed with the following criteria in mind:⢠Act as a base of operations for jurisdictional and public safety watercraft to ensure services provided at the lake are more consistent between the agencies.⢠Reduce the amount of time and cost it normally takes to acquire maintenance for facility repairs.⢠Contain a variety of boat storage options including open, covered, and enclosed slips.⢠Reduce the footprint and need for multiple facilities at the lake, which would help trim construction costs for the agencies. To build the facility, the agencies enlisted the expertise of Desert Troon Companies who are known for having an extensive portfolio in the construction of commercial properties and also own and manage Scorpion Bay Marina. The agencies were able to work together and jointly fund construction and maintenance of the project through a Contract for Design, Construction, Use, and Maintenance. Construction on the facility began in April and wrapped up in November 2019.
