The FleetWatch Program is designed to utilize county, city and private sector workers to provide trained persons to report observed crimes, accidents and suspicious activities in an effort to expedite law enforcement involvement and reduce crime. St. Lucie County created a comprehensive FleetWatch Program in May of 2011, utilizing not only city and county workers, but teaming up with the largest local garbage hauler thereby putting more than 2,000 extra watching eyes on the streets. The fleet now encompasses in excess of 450 vehicles. With little up-front costs, this program allows persons already in driving positions throughout the County to observe and report to law enforcement any suspicious or criminal activity. Numerous municipal departments as well as private industry were enlisted to participate in the program and trained by local law enforcementâs Crime Prevention Divisions on how to recognize and report activities.
