The County of San Diego’s Planning & Development Services (PDS) implemented a new systematic and highly managed recruitment process. The standard process for talent acquisition can often be drawn out due to initial start-up and the need to schedule multiple interviews, obtain references and conduct background checks. To manage this process, key positions are prioritized and then interviews are consolidated into one day. To ensure each event is executed as planned, PDS Human Resources (HR) staff outline the entire event in detail, provide interview schedules for all three panels, prepare detailed instructions for panel members and candidates, and coordinate with the County of San Diego’s (County) Department of Human Resources (DHR) Backgrounds Investigation Unit. The first expedited hiring event resulted in completing first and second round job interviews for 22 job applicants in two days and seven positions were offered to candidates.
