About the Program

Category: Information Technology (Best in Category)

Year: 2019

As emergency situations emerge and escalate in the U.S., Baltimore County improved security for the safety of its constituents, students, and teachers by developing an enterprise video dashboard technology program. The program is a collaborative partnership between the Office of Information Technology and the Baltimore County Police Department. The technology provides a centralized perspective of various sites, facilities, and roadways County-wide. This includes specifically mapped school cameras and floor layouts made available to officers in their vehicles, at every precinct, 911 Centers, and from central command posts. These affordances enable the police to have rapid situational awareness to many different locales and situations but specifically for public schools’ benefit, boosting the police’s abilities to respond to any situation appropriately.Additional camera systems can be flexibly added to this new system as the growing need for public safety increases; bringing direct value to all County constituents, employees, members and participants in the public school system.
