In 2011, The Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disabilities Services (MCBDDS) enhanced its efficiency when it contracted with MONCO Enterprises, a non-profit board that seeks employment opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities. A new employment endeavor, Document Imaging, was established. This venture gives individuals with developmental disabilities the tools needed to compete in a competitive, non-traditional work environment, while presenting the board with a good return on investment by electronically preparing and storing the board’s documents. The board embraced the idea that a ‘Document Imaging’ business would not only provide employment opportunities but would also benefit the board internally and create tangible connections within the community. When marketed along with MONCO’s successful Secure Document Shredding business, already serving many local business, educational and medical organizations, an essential business service is provided to the community. Paper is transported, scanned and shredded. The customer is then given electronic copies of their documents stored on the media of their choice.
