The Department of Risk Management – Employee Benefits leveraged Countywide technological improvements to provide a completely virtual Open Enrollment experience for 20,000 employees. A successful group benefits program supports these 20,000 employees, as well as their 30,000 dependents. This program represents the largest expenditure of taxpayer resources next to employee salaries. The timely and accurate administration of these essential services for our employee-customers is key to the success of County operations.Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Benefits team was required to update methods of communication, customer support options, and to otherwise ensure that County employees could utilize the enrollment portal during the correct timeframe in order to make health, wellness and financial selections for the betterment of themselves and their families. The 2020 pandemic presented an opportunity to utilize technology, improve communication channels, and implement significant changes in the way the Benefits team worked to provide an Open Enrollment period.
