2009 NACo Achievement Award Winner

Gwinnett County, Ga., GA

About the Program

Category: County Resiliency (Best in Category)

Year: 2009

By using reclaimed water, a growing, drought-stricken county is helping ensure an adequate future water supply. Gwinnett County has succeeded with plans to return highly treated wastewater to the lake or river that is the primary source of drinking water for millions of area residents. They are making a positive impact on both the community and the environment by expanding its use of reclaimed water to preserve drinking water during one of the most devastating droughts in Georgia history. Gwinnett County is using water wisely by encouraging customers to use reused water instead of drinking water and by returning remaining reused water to its source.
