About the Program

Category: Libraries (Best in Category)

Year: 2018

Our Dogs with Jobs introduces the public to many types of jobs that dogs perform for various organizations in Maricopa County. At the end of the month long series, we honor the hard working dogs by inviting Maricopa County Animal Care and Control to come out to the library with their mobile adoption center. The adoption event is open to the public and gives many animals a chance to interact with potential new owners. The organizations that have participated in Dogs with Jobs are Maricopa K9 Search and Rescue, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, the Gilbert Fire and Rescue/Police Department, US Customs and Border Protection, and Soldier’s Best Friend. The organizations’ representatives give a lecture at the library, and then follow up with a demonstration on what the dogs do in their jobs. Some of these demonstrations have included the dogs sniffing out controlled substances, apprehending a perpetrator, or finding a child that is lost in the woods. This is a popular program that customers of all ages can enjoy.
