Year: 2021

Without a County Health Department to lead the charge, County of Berks officials quickly recognized the need for focused, localized messaging to cut through the noise and confusion surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. The County launched the Do Your Part - Stop the Spread initiative in April 2020 as a call for Berks County businesses, institutions and residents to focus on the steps each could take to make a meaningful impact during the early days of the pandemic. Initially, Do Your Part focused on precautions like wearing masks, social distancing and washing hands and encouraged the community to support businesses that were also following proper health and safety standards. The County supported an advertising campaign to share these crucial public health messages with our residents and created posters and social media graphics that could be customized for other organizations to utilize. As cases climbed and local restaurants prepared for another round of shutdowns in late 2020, the Do Your Part website became the County's main communication line for all COVID-related news, updates and grant relief programs. Now in early 2021, this initiative has transformed into the leading COVID-19 vaccine resource in Berks County, providing residents with factual information about the vaccine and serving as a database of local vaccine appointments. The Do Your Part website has garnered more than 51,000 views and more than 3,500 residents have signed up to receive Do Your Part email alerts about new vaccine opportunities. The Do Your Part initiative was designed to be adjusted continuously to serve the ever-changing needs of our residents, yet remain as a clear, consistent voice during an incredibly difficult year. The call for each resident to do what they can to help our community has resonated throughout the County and continues to serve as our mantra as we move forward.
