About the Program

Category: Risk and Emergency Management (Best in Category)

Year: 2017

Broward County successfully implemented a program to be the single resource to capture, maintain, and update accurate values of our 1,222 County buildings and structures, contents, electronic data processing (EDP), business interruption, and books. By utilizing this methodology we ascertained our 2016 accurate values to be $5.2 Billion. An accurate value is necessary to purchase the maximum property insurance coverage at a minimum expense. The value is also used in the County’s budget workshop to assist with the Capital Projects Program, needed to properly maintain our infrastructure. The success of this program was achieved through the purchase of an additional module to our Risk Management Information System, RMIS, by educating County employees as to the overall importance of the program, and by granting access to strategic divisional staff who, as frontline resources, were able to recognize and document the true values under their division’s or office’s control.
