The Gaston County Department of Health and Human Services’ (DHHS) Leadership Academy is an eight month journey of reflection and leadership skill refinement. Leadership Academy is a highly interactive and engaging course of study taught by members of Gaston County DHHS’s Management Team. This professional growth opportunity provides a venue for supervisors get to know, on a personal level, the agency’s senior leadership and learn from their own leadership journey. In addition, participants practice leadership skills within the context of the Gaston County DHHS organization and further benefit by expanding their network and influence across the agency. Each three hour Leadership Academy session is researched and developed by a member of the DHHS management team and based on a leadership competency about which they are passionate and skilled at delivering. Topics are also chosen based on the overarching strategic goals of the organization. Session topic areas fall within three core areas: Leading self, leading others, and leading the organization.
