Dependency Treatment Court (DTC) is designed to improve opportunities for success for parents who have dependency court involvement due to allegations of substance abuse. DTC is voluntary, but is only available to parents who have been ordered by their Dependency Judge to observe a hearing. Court-supervised drug treatment improves success in gaining and maintaining sobriety. FDC is among the most effective programs for improving substance abuse treatment initiation and completion in child welfare populations (http://www.nadcp.org/learn/need-know-briefs). The program helps parents overcome their past and move forward with a sober, healthy lifestyle. The court’s goal is for the parents to be able to successfully care for their children so that the family can be reunified. The program involves frequent hearings before a judge who works to help motivate and provide accountability to parents as they travel on their journey to sobriety.
