In any workforce, a competent and knowledgeable employee is a successful employee. In an effort to educate and enrich employees, the Department of Public Works implemented the Employee Enrichment Program. The overall program is designed to help personnel gain a better understanding of what the Department does, to help them enhance current skills and gain new ones and to provide staffing flexibility to the Department. The Employee Enrichment Program has two main elements: the Division Spotlight Presentation Program and the Employee Mentoring Program. The Division Spotlight Presentation Program consists of all 18 divisions giving one hour presentations and question and answer sessions where any personnel could attend. The Employee Mentoring Program is a year-long program where protégés and mentors went through an application process and were matched together. The Employee Mentoring Program was very successful in its first year of existence with 30 protégés. The program is being continued with some adjustments. A number of the protégés have reached higher achievements in their careers. Morale has also improved with the knowledge that the management of the Department are concerned with their employees and how they are doing in their careers.
