The Artist Village makes available to visitors of the Deering Estate a collection of historic buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places historic art, documents, photographs, furnishings, and artifacts. The Artist Village merges historic preservation with visual, literary, and performance art and education to effect community participation and awareness of the rich cultural resources in the community. The village also serves as a collaborative venue for annual events that generate greater interest and awareness of the Deering Estate as well as offer interactive programs for guests and artists alike. Traditional and contemporary fine art exhibits, offered to the community free of charge, serve as the anchor to the cultural arts programming. These are then blended with lectures, workshops, performances, and various other activities to reach a broad and diverse audience.
