Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) – a department of Montgomery County Government, MD – assembled an Ad Hoc Data Integrity Team to deconstruct, remodel, rebuild and map institutional data to assess the true impact of library services to the public, customer information needs, engagement and learning. This extensive internal data review proved pivotal in revealing three key service areas for targeted strategic improvement: 1) total use of library materials, 2) percentage of County residents with an active library card, and 3) business and workforce development programming. In concert with these efforts, the Data Integrity Team built integrated information architecture, data structures and supports, resulting in an internal cultural shift toward resultsbased accountability.
