The DASH mobile electronic traffic citation application is transformative in the ways it benefits the Bell County Sherriffâs office. The application provides the mobile interface for sheriff deputies to efficiently and accurately produce traffic warnings or citations. The application makes the process faster, more accurate and less expensive. Time to completion of the citation is facilitated by the capability to scan the driverâs license. Time to making the data available to the sheriffâs office is reduced by as much as a week, through secure wireless upload of the citation info and elimination of the delay, for data entry of paper tickets. Accuracy of the citation information from elimination of illegible handwriting and scanning of driver information, eliminates the usual keyboard data entry errors. Statutory compliance information logging is enforced by the electronic ticketing process, a feature significantly lacking in the paper ticket book process. To complete the citation, the statutory questions around racial profiling and consent to search must be answered by the deputy; greatly improving the accuracy of mandatory reporting to the state on these issues. The application could be deployed in any Texas county to enhance the traffic citation process and achieve compliance with statutory reporting.
