Our daily life, economic vitality, and security depend on a stable, safe, and resilient cyberspace. We rely on our networks to communicate, power our homes, run our economy, and provide government services. Over the past year, the County of San Diego Office of Emergency Services (OES) has developed a consistent framework for preparing for, responding to, and recovering from a large-scale cyber disruption. This effort is designed to bridge the planning gap between information technology and emergency management to ensure that the region can respond and continue to operate if an event were to disrupt critical cyber infrastructure. The result of this is the Cyber Disruption Response Planning Annex, which develops a response framework and creates a Cyber Disruption Response Team (CDRT) that brings in subject matter experts from IT, Emergency Management, and Law Enforcement from all levels of government and local private sector partners. Through the development of a multidisciplinary CDRT, the County will have a resource that provides cyber-related expertise and assistance to affected cyber assets in an effort to lessen the impact of a disruption event.
