In 2013, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs launched Culture Shock Miami Presents, a youth arts performance series to introduce the next generation of audience members to live arts and cultural experiences at the age when they are beginning to make their own decisions about entertainment options. Based on research that shows most people begin their appreciation for the arts at a young age, Culture Shock was founded on the premise that when teens and young adults make the arts a regular entertainment choice, they are more likely to become the full-price ticket buyers and subscribers of the future. The program provides teens and young adults, ages 13-22, with affordable student discount tickets to cultural performances and museums. For only $5, kids can attend great theater shows, high quality music concerts, and outstanding dance performances, plus, students can buy a second ticket for the adult parent or guardian that accompanies them. Culture Shock Miami Presents serves more than 75,010 students in Miami-Dade County offering affordable tickets to world class performances such as Dance Theatre of Harlem, Soledad Barrio’s Noche Flamenca and a musical concert by talented singer and rising star Yoli Mayor of America’s Got Talent.
