About the Program

Category: Risk and Emergency Management (Best in Category)

Year: 2021

The COVID-19 Safe Re-Entry program involved the outreach of the Offices Under the President (OUP) to collaborate with Cook County’s elected officials, who have jurisdiction over public safety and property taxation. Under the leadership of OUP, these stakeholders collaborated to create policies and sustain processes conducive to safely serving the public throughout the pandemic. We learned quickly and adapted in an even quicker fashion in order to maintain good governance amid the various disruptions caused by COVID-19. This collaboration ensured that County business was conducted in a safe and effective manner during a period of tremendous uncertainty. This effort was composed of two overarching elements: first, we prioritized safe re-entry procedures in all County facilities; second, we developed clear lines of communication and training to ensure employees were comfortable with re-entry and prepared to effectively serve residents given new constraints.
