Oakland County has recently developed and implemented a number of Web 2.0 initiatives that facilitate improved communication and collaboration. One example is the County’s internal, secured Cost Reduction/Investment Blog, developed as part of Oakland County’s overall evaluation of operating costs and to support each County government department’s goal of reducing its ongoing operating budget. Recognizing that new ideas and employee suggestions often result in the most innovative cost-saving programs for organizations of all sizes, the web-based Cost Reduction/Investment Blogs encourage and facilitate collection, discussion, and evaluation of cost-saving suggestions submitted by employees. The Cost Reduction/Investment Blog is a place for County employees to post cost-saving ideas or comment on ideas posted by others. Anyone in each department can post or comment on their designated blog; management reviews the ideas on their designated blog and makes all final implementation decisions.
