The San Diego Department of Child Support Services held a departmentwide, internal Community Fair event to connect staff with partner agencies and resources in the community. The goal was to expand the staff's knowledge of services available to its customers and understand how Child Support could build a bridge between customers and partner agencies. The department wanted to increase staff engagement with outreach activities so that they would be equipped to offer referrals and information about programs that could fit customers' needs outside of Child Support. An outcome of the Community Fair Event was an increase of staff engagement with community partners, as well as ownership of outreach knowledge they could take back to customers. Also, more staff have volunteered to participate in outreach activities as a result of their awareness after the Community Fair.
