About the Program

Category: Health (Best in Category)

Year: 2010

Maricopa County Environmental Services is responsible for conducting onsite investigations of communicable disease alerts (CD3) issued by the State of Arizona through Maricopa County Department of Public Health. In response to an increase in the number of Shigellosis cases reported in daycare facilities, a collaborative educational campaign was developed among all three agencies. This collaboration has positively influenced the care that is given to attendees at these facilities. Expert knowledge is available onsite during a time when there had been a potential break down in the sanitation at the facility leading to a confirmed case. This knowledge empowers the facilities to learn how to prevent the spread of the disease and how to protect the health of the children in their care.
