The Alice F. Keene District Park in Pitt County, North Carolina represents the strong collaborative efforts of county departments, community partners, resourceful volunteers and supportive funding organizations. Under the leadership of Community Schools and Recreation along with Planning, Public Health, Engineering, and Soil and Water Conservation, over twenty grants, gifts, designated appropriations, and in-kind donations have contributed to the current development. Known as the âpeopleâs parkâ, the District Park exemplifies the spirit and determination of staff, volunteers and partners that developed the vision into a plan ⦠and continue to believe that âtogetherâ they can make it happen. Motivated by the diversity and enthusiasm of citizens using the park, partners continue to seek resources for further development. Located adjacent to the Senior Center and other County facilities, the Park is now well established as a central focus for countywide special events, regularly scheduled meetings and a variety of programs. Given any week of the year, one can find citizens from a few weeks old to 90 plus using trails or playgrounds, and participating in activities. Through both organized and informal activities, the Park contributes to the health and well-being of citizens from sunup to sundown, 365 days a year.
