Cleveland Avenue Streetscape 2020 is a vision for the unincorporated township portion of Cleveland Avenue in the Northern Light area. The streetscape plan is the product of a collaborative, community-based planning process helping Clinton Township officials, business owners and residents collectively shape their community's future. Until the development of this Plan, there had been no comprehensive vision for this important commercial corridor. Planning process began by assessing the commercial corridor’s existing state - the current condition of individual parcels and businesses, the transportation network, conditions for pedestrian and bicyclists and area's general design character. Further, as a part of the planning process, public meetings were held to gather citizens’ impressions regarding the area. The plan’s proposed improvements will be a direct result of a careful and thorough analysis, and came at a reasonable price to the taxpayers of the County. The Streetscape plan effectively combines objective analysis with citizen and government officials’ input in order to craft effective public policy solutions that can have tangible results. This project has been especially crucial in the development of intergovernmental cooperation. Franklin County staff worked across jurisdictional lines to solve problems in the development process, engaging Clinton Township, the City of Columbus, and the Central Ohio Transit authority to make a lasting investment in an aging commercial corridor with an aim towards fostering long-term regional economic development.
