The topics, scenarios, and personal presentations of Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training can bring to the surface participant reactions to past critical incidents and everyday pressures. While Corrections conducts wellness programs and uses critical incident stress debriefings following serious incidents, there are often instances of less critical incidents that layer onto the daily stresses. Additionally, personal life experiences can result in PTSD, perhaps not yet recognized until intense discussion of these conditions in CIT training. Realizing the need for CIT personal debriefing, the training manager identified the need for a fifth day of CIT training--- âRelaxology Dayâ.This dayâs learning includes anger management; PTSD recognition and response; self-care; an enjoyable catered lunch; guided meditation; and finally, healthy lifestyle. It is a day all about the staff, devoted to recognizing the potential hazards that result from experiencing and handling crises and critical incidents and how personally to deal with these hazards in an effective and healthy manner. Staff learn healthy responses to the ordinary daily stress and when/how to reach out for assistance. The program is very well received, and the goal is to have all staff complete CIT training, including the Fifth Day for Staff: âRelaxology Dayâ.
