Leon County’s Capital Cascades Stage and Concert Series began in 2014, immediately after construction of the Capital City Amphitheater was complete. The Concert Series has become an integral component of Leon County’s tourism development strategy; to date, a total of 15 concerts at the Amphitheater have been hosted by Leon County including Tracy Lawrence, Charlie Wilson, Rodney Atkins, the Beach Boys, Peter Frampton, Alabama Shakes, Jason Isbell, Boz Scaggs, and more. These events have been attended by almost 30,000 residents and visitors to Leon County. To realize a return on the County’s investment of Tourism Development Tax funds in the construction of the Capital City Amphitheater, the County entered into an interlocal agreement with the City of Tallahassee to host Capital Cascades Stage and Concert Series events. Through this agreement, the County ensures that a strategic effort is employed to utilize the Amphitheater to attract regional visitors and enhance economic development through tourism. To date, Leon County has commissioned economic impact studies for three of the 15 Concert Series events held at the Capital City Amphitheater. Just those three events generated over $861,000 in economic impact for the Leon County community.
