Camp Long Branch provider therapeutic services to children that have been adopted or are in foster care. A fundamental component aims to encourage positive change and growth through a series of education, therapeutic recreation and social services. The program was introduced in August, 2010 as a partnership between The Montgomery County Department of Recreation, The Center for Adoption Support and Education ad Through the Kitchen Door. The core programming elements were focused on providing a supportive and nurturing environment to middle school aged youth with emphasis on implementing services that encourage the continued development of life skills, problem solving skills and healthy relationship skills. Without positive supervision and role modeling, these youth are at risk of developing destructive behaviors that may lead to serious consequences such as delinquency, gang involvement or substance abuse. The program provides therapeutic program geared specifically to assist youth who were adopted or are in foster care, with the tools to effectively deal with the unique challenges specific to children that live without their birth parents.
