Category: Planning (Best in Category)

Year: 2014

The Building Permit Review Standards program is a performance measure which establishes a time frame for reviews to be completed by Collier County’s Plans Review and Inspections section. This program also includes a rare government accountability measure – a money-back guarantee – and has a 99.8 percent success rate. The program was instituted in 2010 with the purpose to improve accountability for County review staff, to manage expectations of the private sector, and to provide a level of surety during the economic downturn. The program is the result of new partnerships which sought to improve the regulatory environment in Collier County. In a collaborative effort, the County, the building industry, and local business leaders evaluated the permit process to identify improvements and methods of implementation in order to support and bolster industry activities and to prepare for the return of the local and national building market.
