Year: 2010

Clark County Development Services instituted a temporary Building Permit Amnesty to allow homeowners the opportunity to voluntarily seek building permits and inspections for any construction or repair work done to their homes without permits. The amnesty ran from June 2nd until September 2nd, 2009 and was the first ever offered by Clark County for residential building permits. The objective of the program was to raise awareness about the benefits of building permits and inspections, to ensure the safety of the home’s occupants, and to protect the home’s value. For this reason, penalty fees were waived in order to encourage participation. In total, 116 permits were issued to homeowners for unpermitted construction during the amnesty, more than doubling the number issued for unpermitted construction during the same timeframe in 2008. The combined construction value of the patio covers, carports, garage conversions and other projects permitted and inspected under the amnesty equaled $340,426.
