Year: 2017

The Catawba County Library’s Born to Read initiative is a collaborative community project that supports early literacy efforts and empowers our citizens with the tools and resources needed to ensure children start school ready to learn and positioned to excel--and ultimately increases educational attainment in Catawba County. In partnership with local hospitals, County Health, Social Services and the Partnership for Children, the Born to Read program promotes parent engagement in early literacy through prenatal workshops to educate expectant parents on the importance of reading to infants. The library distributes a Born to Read early literacy bag to each newborn parent, providing baby's first library card, a bilingual board book, and information about literacy tools and learning opportunities at the library such as Baby Bounce, Ready to Learn Story Time and electronic resources.
