The Air Pollution Control District (APCD) developed and implemented an automated digital inspection form for internal combustion engines that replaces an entirely manual form. This project created a new form that is now tied into the APCDâs database, bringing many benefits to the inspection process and the APCDâs customers. For example, this new system provides: ⢠An inspection form that automatically self-populates with accurate information about the facility and device being inspected. ⢠Completed inspection forms that are automatically sent to the supervisor for review. Previously, this was a manual process requiring hand delivery, e-mails or saving the inspection form to a shared drive for viewing. ⢠The inspection report is automatically posted in the APCDâs database once approved. This gives customers easy access to their information. ⢠An efficient report that generates time savings. This project results in an estimated annual savings of 1,400 staff-hours and $160,000. Other benefits include increased consistency because the same inspection form is used by all inspectors, there is built-in error checking for missing/incorrect data and typographical errors, and reports are tracked to ensure timely submissions. Furthermore, customer service is enhanced with clearer reports that can be accessed via the internet 24/7.
