The Michigan Court Rule 6.111 allows a district court judge to conduct a circuit court arraignment and take a plea in criminal cases recognizable in the circuit court immediately after the bind over of the defendant. Following a plea, the case is transferred to the circuit court where the circuit court judge presides over further proceedings, including sentencing. The district court clerks can now schedule a circuit court sentence date by using the Macomb County Clerk’s Office new appointment scheduling software FastPass. The district court clerks have secure access to make these appointments without any need to contact circuit court staff. Circuit court sentence scheduling is now automated, saving staff time and allowing the parties to receive notice of the hearing date immediately.
