The Maricopa County Adult Probation Departmentâs Fugitive Apprehension Unit (FAU) sought to increase their effectiveness and keep up with the demand for the apprehension of probation absconders (probationers with warrants) and individuals who were involved in criminal activity. A special unit of Phoenix police and Adult Probation FAU officers was formed to locate and apprehend criminal offenders from hotels, motels, and apartment complexes located in an area with a high number of service calls to police. It was determined that probation absconders and other individuals on probation were often in this area. The intergovernmental apprehension unit formed a strong working partnership and the collaborative approach proved highly effective in the location and apprehension of probation absconders and other individuals involved in criminal activity.
