Recognizing the need to divert non-violent offenders from expensive incarceration in the Illinois Department of Corrections, Will County Adult Redeploy Illinois – A Holistic Court Solution to the Chronic Reoffender (ARI) improves access to community-based services by increasing capacity in its Problem Solving Courts, serving individuals locally while maintaining public safety. Will County expanded the capacity in the existing Drug, Mental Health and Veteran’s Court and created an Adult Redeploy docket; the only of its kind in the State of Illinois. The purpose of the program is to provide comprehensive services not found in traditional or even other problem solving courts. A team of professionals provide screening and assessment tools that include mental health, substance abuse and risk assessments. Comprehensive treatment plans are implemented and include case management, mental health and substance abuse counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma, yoga, nutrition and fitness groups, elective groups, biofeedback, employment assistance, drug testing, medication-assisted treatment for opioid and alcohol use disorders, housing and intensive judicial intervention. Offenders selected would otherwise be sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections. The outcome is fewer chronic, non-violent offenders sentenced to prison, a better quality of life for those offenders, a cost savings to Will County and improved public safety.
