About the Program

Category: Risk and Emergency Management (Best in Category)

Year: 2017

The safety of our employees is one of the County of San Diego’s highest priorities. In December 2015, active shooters killed 14 people and injured another 22 in San Bernardino, one of our sister counties. After this unthinkable terrorist attack, the Department of Human Resources took the initiative to educate 118 staff through a classroom presentation about Active Shooters and conducted an “Active Shooter Drill” in the department. Due to the nature and climate of our society, employees need to be educated on how to react in the event of an active shooter or any other type of peril. The subject is difficult but our employees want to learn options to help themselves and their colleagues in times of danger. Practice is the key to preparedness.
