The need for St. James Parish Government to adopt a safety program became evident as costs related to insurance premiums increased each year. Local governments typically don’t have the budget to continuously replace equipment or keep up with rising insurance premiums. The objective of the safety program is to reduce the number of injuries and the amount of damage that occurs through increased awareness of potential safety hazards. Through the program, St. James Parish Government has realized a cost savings in workers’ compensation premiums of $25,000 in 2014, $75,000 in 2015, and $21,000 in 2016.
