Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department organized a public/private partnership to build a unique amenity for county residents and for citizens with disabilities. The partnership enabled them to do it at nominal costs. They partnered with two mountain bike groups, the Tarheel Trailblazers and the Dirt Divas to design and build a mountain bike trail at an expansion of their Jetton Park. Through the required community involvement, the need for an accessible and educational beginner’s mountain bike trail was discussed. This exceptional partnership provided them a way to design and build at minimal cost to make accessible mountain bike affordable to participants with mobility disabilities.
