2018 Annual Conference: Criminal Justice and Behavioral Health Part I: Using Screening and Assessment to Accurately Identify People in Your Jail with Behavioral Health Treatment Needs

Counties need to have an effective screening and assessment process to accurately identify justice-involved individuals with mental illnesses and substance use disorders. In addition to using this information to make referrals to treatment and services, having accurate and timely data is critical for developing a strategic action plan that effectively targets resources and for tracking progress on efforts to reduce the number of people with mental illnesses in the jail and produce better outcomes. In this workshop, hear from your peers about how they are identifying people with behavioral health treatment needs in the justice system and how they are using this information to make connections to treatment and services in the jail and the community.
