    Social Services Mobile Application

    Durham County, N.C.

To relieve transportation barriers, and provide time and cost savings to social service clients of Durham County, a mobile application was created that allows electronic submission of forms and paperwork during the application and benefit receiving process. These forms relate to food and nutrition, Medicaid, and Work First benefits. This documentation is received directly by case workers with seamless integration of their current workflow process. Durham County received over 500 pages of scanned documentation from hundreds of clients during the first four months of the mobile application release. Because this is the first mobile application of its kind in North Carolina, other municipalities have inquired about the development process and obtained Durham County's programming code to create their own application.
