    Data Internship Summer 2023

    The National Association of Counties (NACo) in Washington, D.C., announces an opening for a Data Analytics Intern within the Research and Data Analytics team.

    The National Association of Counties (NACo) unites America’s 3,069 county governments. Founded in 1935, NACo brings county officials together to advocate with a collective voice on national policy, exchange ideas and build new leadership skills, pursue transformational county solutions, enrich the public’s understanding of county government and exercise exemplary leadership in public service.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    The intern will work with the Data Analytics team from June through August 2023. The intern will assist in completing ongoing data projects, creating data visualizations and providing technical and administrative support. The qualifications and skills needed for the position are presented below:

    • Strong data and analytical skills necessary.
    • Background in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Public Policy, Geography, or related field.
    • Proficiency with programming and statistical tools such as Python, R or Stata.
    • Comfort in handling large datasets and databases.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office products. Excel and Word skills should be at an intermediate level or higher.
    • Ability to work independently (within a team) and handle multiple tasks under short deadlines.
    • Eye for detail; strong organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Undergraduate students (especially those in the senior class), recent college graduates and graduate students majoring in economics, political science, statistics, mathematics, public policy, geography, other social sciences, or related fields of interest to NACo are encouraged to apply.

    Preference will be given to students interested in local/state government careers.

    Hours/Salary

    Interns work at least 3 full days, up to 24-29 hours per week, depending on the Department’s needs and the intern’s availability. This internship is paid.
