The National Association of Counties (NACo), a nonprofit in Washington, D.C., announces an opening for a Program Manager for Justice.
Duties of this position include a variety of professional assignments aimed at informing, educating and assisting county officials across the country in their efforts to improve local services related to justice and public safety, including juvenile justice and intersections with other youth-serving systems.
The position is dependent on the availability of project-based outside funding.
Responsibilities and Activities
- Actively promote NACo justice initiatives in written materials, conference calls and national webinars, small group convenings and national events
- Provide quality information and guidance to county government officials on topics related to justice and public safety, including juvenile justice and intersections with other youth-serving systems
- Plan and conduct technical assistance activities and idea exchanges for county leaders.
- Research best practices and develop educational resources such as webinars, workshops, case studies, toolkits and issue briefs
- Manage the timely delivery, day-to-day quality and completion of project deliverables including other assigned duties under the guidance and direction of the Associate Program Director
- Maintain productive ongoing relationships with NACo members, foundation and corporate funders and other NACo departments
- Travel is required, estimated at four to six trips per year
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 3-5 years of experience in justice, public policy or local government sector
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including in public speaking and in conducting formal meetings with internal and external stakeholders
- Self-starter and shows enthusiasm for and strong content knowledge of justice policy and programs, particularly as it intersects with juvenile justice and other youth-serving systems
- Knowledge of federal, state and local governments and relevant organizations
- Brings collaboration, innovative ideas and creativity to the position and work products; works well under pressure and as part of a team and with external partners
- Ability to work well in a political environment while maintaining non-partisan perspective
