Clark County is the most populous of Nevada’s 17 counties, with 75.3% of the state’s population residing in the County, and it is the 11th largest county by population in the country. Unincorporated Clark County is home to the Las Vegas Strip. The County provides extensive regional services to more than 2.3 million residents and more than 45.6 million visitors each year. The Clark County Department of Aviation oversees Harry Reid International Airport, formerly known as McCarran International Airport, and the four general aviation facilities in the airport system. Unlike other departments within Clark County government, the Department of Aviation is a self-sufficient enterprise and operates without County general fund tax revenue. The Controller is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) who manages, coordinates, and directs accounting, auditing, purchasing, and materials management functions for the Department of Aviation. This position is responsible for short- and long-term financial planning, including the development and administration of multiple operational, supplemental, and capital improvement budgets. The chosen candidate will be skilled in interpreting, applying, and explaining intricate federal, state, and local laws related to the areas of responsibility; preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials; using initiative and independent judgment within general policy guidelines; and using tact, discretion, and prudence in dealing with those contacted in the course of the work.
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, Public Administration, or a related field and five years of full-time professional experience in finance/accounting, two years of which were in a supervisory/management role. The incoming Controller must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Possession of an advanced degree in an appropriate field and experience in airport finance and budgeting is highly desirable. GASB or FASB experience preferred, with experience implementing new financial guidelines. An equivalent combination of formal education and appropriate related experience may be considered. Maintaining a principal place of residency within Clark County and providing proof of compliance with Nevada motor vehicle registration and drivers’ license laws is required within 90 days of employment.
