    Executive Director of Human Services

    The El Paso County Administrator is seeking a highly ethical, trustworthy, approachable, servant leader capable of continuing the legacy of a well-liked and highly regarded Executive Director who will retire this summer. The County is looking for a high-level professional who: Engages, inspires, and instills trust at all levels, creating a climate in which people are motivated to best help DHS achieve its objectives. Cultivates innovation by developing improvements to enhance the organization’s success. Ensures accountability for Federal, State, and County performance metrics. Ensures professional development within DHS; encourages and inspires staff to meet career aspirations and the organization’s goals. Anticipates and addresses difficult issues with courage, candor, professionalism, and the highest ethical standards. Manages daily complexity of leadership of a large organization with skill, poise, and a calm demeanor. Operates effectively in rapidly changing or unknown circumstances. Persuades others by using compelling arguments to gain their support and commitment.

    The Executive Director of the El Paso County Department of Human Services (DHS) directs, organizes, and administers the programs and services of the DHS, including Children, Youth and Family Services, Economic and Administrative Services, Adult and Family Services, Contract Management, Administrative Support, and the DHS Public Information Office. Collaborates with the State Department of Human Services and Health Care Policy and Financing in the provision of programs and services within El Paso County. Works closely with County Commissioners and Executive Directors across County departments and offices.

    Qualifications include but are not limited to: Bachelor’s degree in social work, behavioral science, public administration, business administration, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated managerial and administrative leadership experience; ten (10) years of experience preferred. Minimum five (5) years of human services, government, non-profit, or related experience. Extensive knowledge of and practical experience in administration, including the principles of organization, management, personnel, and large-scale budget operations.
