    Director of Fire and Emergency Medical Services

    The Prince George County Department of Fire and EMS is currently seeking qualified applicants for theposition of Director of Fire and Emergency Medical Services. This position will be responsible forplanning, organizing and directing the operation of the Fire and EMS employees and DepartmentVolunteers within the coordinated emergency response system. The Fire and EMS Director plans andorganizes the overall role in the delivery of fire suppression, emergency medical services and otheremergency services for the County within an integrated County system as provided by State law. TheDirector manages emergency planning for all man-made and natural disasters and coordinates disasterand hazardous materials responses.


    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college oruniversity with major course work in a field related to the department and extensive experience in fire,emergency services and/or emergency medical services, with a minimum of five (5) years in aleadership position in Fire & EMS.


    Comprehensive knowledge of fire, EMS, emergency management and disaster planning management;extensive knowledge of laws and regulations controlling fire, EMS and emergency management;proven management and administrative skills; ability to lead, direct and manage the activities ofvolunteer and career personnel; ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships withvolunteers, career personnel, government officials and the public; ability to prepare technical andinformative reports and present complex information to varied audiences; and, ability to exercisesound judgment and discretion in emergency situations.


    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must possesscertifications for ALS, EMT – Intermediate or higher, (paramedic certification is preferred), Fire OfficerII or higher, Fire Instructor II or higher, Hazmat Operations and EVOC 3 or higher. Executive FireOfficer (EFO) certification is preferred.
