    Nassau County is located in the northeast corner of Florida along the Atlantic Ocean and Interstate 95, and in close proximity to Jacksonville International Airport. With a population of almost 88,625 comprising 726 square miles, and a regional population of 1.5 million, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that Nassau County grew by 3.25% last year ranking as the 40th fastest growing county, by percent growth, in the United States. Over the next decade, the County is projected to be the seventh fastest growing county in Florida with a projected population of over 116,100 people calling Nassau County home. A non-charter county with a Commission-Manager form of government, Nassau County is governed by the five-member Nassau County Board of Commissioners.

    Nassau County seeks a pragmatic servant leader with a high degree of emotional intelligence, passion for public service, and a high sense of integrity and ethics to become their next Deputy County Manager-Community Development. The DCM is a highly responsible professional and managerial position providing direct support to the County Manager on various programs and governmental services including coordination with County staff, the Board of County Commissioners, Constitutional Officers, and traditional public affairs issues. Nassau County seeks a pragmatic servant leader with a high degree of emotional intelligence, passion for public service, and a high sense of integrity and ethics to become their next DCM. The position will oversee the following Departments: Planning & Economic Opportunity, Engineering Services, Animal Care & Control, Nassau Amelia Utilities, and Public Works (Facilities Maintenance, Parks & Recreation, Road Department, Solid Waste, and Fleet Management).

    This position requires a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Urban and Regional Planning, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in local government management including experience in community/urban planning, public works, and/or engineering, three (3) years of which must be acquired in a supervisory/management capacity. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. A Professional Planner certified through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), a Florida licensed Professional Engineer (PE), a Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Public Manager (CPM), or Florida licensed Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) preferred. Prior experience as a City/County Manager and/or Deputy/Assistant City/County Manager is desired, with Florida public sector experience a plus. The ability to acquire a Florida Driver’s license and establish residency in Nassau County within 180 days of appointment is required.

    The salary range for this position is $110,652 - $168,370, with an anticipated hiring range not to exceed $145,000.
