    GENERAL INFORMATION: The Minnehaha County Board of Commissioners is currently accepting applications for County Auditor. The Auditor is an elected position with a term ending by March 2023. The current Auditor has resigned effective December 31st, and the remainder of the term will be filled by the selected candidate. The Auditor performs and coordinates all statutorily required aspects of the office and serves as the clerk for the County Commission. Responsibilities include preparation of an approximate $113 million budget and all related financial reports, levying and apportioning over $350 million in taxes, overseeing all county elections including appointing and training up to 250 individuals to assist on election day, maintaining an accurate record of official proceedings including recording and maintaining commission meeting minutes and preserving documents, and managing approximately 10 staff within the Auditors Office. Under SDCL 3-4-1, the Auditor must be a resident of Minnehaha County.

    Well qualified candidates would possess: a bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or business administration plus five years of progressively responsible accounting or financial experience; significant budget management experience; previous experience with governmental accounting; knowledge of the real estate tax process; knowledge of elections procedures and requirements; ability to organize and ensure the integrity of election processes; past supervisory experience; and strong communications skills. The salary for the Auditor is determined by the Commission and will be dependent upon qualifications. This position is benefits eligible including health, dental, vision, and life insurance as well as retirement benefits with the South Dakota Retirement System.
