2020 WIR Conference
Established in 1890 and located just two miles from Tenaya Lodge, Yosemite is one of the crown jewels of the National Park System. With an annual operating budget of $27 million and 800 employees during the summer tourism season to manage nearly 800,000 acres of pristine landscape, the National Park Service provides a first-class experience to Yosemite’s visitors daily. During this mobile workshop, participants will learn directly from the staff who run day-to-day operations of the Park about management needs and take in some of the most iconic sites in the United States. Buses will depart from Tenaya Lodge. Wear comfortable, close-toed shoes. Lunch will be provided. |
Yosemite Valley sits in the shadows of iconic rock formations and waterfalls which have caused the park to be named a World Heritage Site. Warm, dry summers leave the area exceptionally fire prone, which negatively impacts tourism, and the presence of bears can jeopardize the wellbeing of campers and hikers. During this mobile workshop, learn how Park management works to decrease the threat of catastrophic fire to the landscape and people while also reducing negative interactions between people and wildlife. Buses will depart from Tenaya Lodge. Wear comfortable, close-toed shoes. |
